A website maintenance plan for a small site should fit on one page. Updates, a backup you could restore, security checks, and a route to change the phone number. If the plan needs a glossary, it is written for a larger organisation than a Godstone shop or a Caterham trade.

The commercial description is website maintenance. The task list already published is what a website maintenance plan should include. When to buy any plan at all is in a maintenance plan for a website. This note is the single plan: what it contains for one small business.

One plan, not a stack

You do not need a bronze, silver and gold ladder for a five-page site. You need to know who installs updates, where the backup lives, and who answers if the form breaks. One owner for each of those is enough. A stack of plans is how a small invoice starts to look like a department.

Comparing several offers, if you are doing that, is a different job and is written in how to compare website maintenance plans. Do that before you sign. Do not collect three plans and then forget which login they use.

The tasks that matter

Update the software that runs the site, on a rhythm you can name. Keep backups that are not stored only on the same server. Check that the contact form and the phone link still work after an update. Glance at speed if a page has become heavy with pictures. Edit hours, prices and staff names when they change, on the same day.

Match the Google profile to the site. A plan that ignores the listing leaves the local enquiry path half done. The match is described in connecting the profile. We still will not promise a ranking in return for the plan.

What you can do yourself

Changing a sentence, a photo or an hour is ordinary work. You should be able to do it, or to ask for it without a new contract. If the only way to fix a phone number is to pay a monthly fee forever, the site was not handed over properly. You own the site. The domain should be in a name you can access.

What most owners should not do alone is a risky update with no backup, or a plugin installed because an advert said it would bring first place. That is the part worth handing to someone else.

What we will and will not sell

The build prices stay the build prices. Starter is £150 for up to five pages. Business is £295 for up to fifteen. Growth is £495 for up to thirty. The first year of domain, hosting and SSL is included. Year two is about £60 to the providers. That renewal is not this plan.

The care page describes monthly-style work: updates, security, backups and a little edit time. No separate monthly number is printed next to those words. Ask what is included before you agree a fee. We will not fold a ranking promise into the answer. Most small sites are ready within two to four weeks of the words and pictures, and the plan starts from the launch, not before the pages exist.

What to send

Send the site address, who can log in, and what has gone wrong lately. If the site does not exist yet, send the page list instead and we will talk about the build first. The studio is at 109A Brighton Road, Coulsdon, CR5 2NG. We do not keep a Godstone office to look after village sites.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a monthly contract?

Not by default. The published prices are the website build. Year two hosting is about £60. Ongoing care is optional and has no separate published monthly figure.

What if I already have hosting?

Keep it if you can log in. We do not need to move you to sell a plan.

How is this different from the checklist?

The checklist lists tasks. This note is the decision to have one plan for a small site, and what to leave out.
